FIBA EuroLeague Women: Castors Mithra Braine (BEL) vs. Nadezhda Orenburg (RUS), played at the Spiroudome in Charleroi, Belgium on Nov. 28th, 2018

When my youngest son and I arrived at the Spiroudome on the evening of the 28th Nov., the scoreboard already showed 9-12 for the Russian team of Nadezhda Orenburg against Castors Braine in a FIBA EuroLeague Women 's Group A regular season game. In front of a sparse attendance, Castors Braine remained in the race and performed well despite the limited number of players fit and able to play that evening. Belgian international player Antonia Delaere , British center Abby Rendle , young Russian power forward Albina Razheva and Estonia's experienced guard Merike Anderson did not play for the Castors while Kenyan-Canadian power forward Adut Bulgak did not wear the Nadezhda outfit but stood behind her team's bench to support her mates that night. We quickly understood that Karlie Samuelson on the Castors ' side and Erica Wheeler for Nadezhda Orenburg had been pretty efficient offensively in the first minutes of their fourth game in the European women basketbal

A look back with Hall of Famer Katie Smith at Team USA's success and the great Belgian Cats' run in the FIBA World Cup 2018

Because of professional commitments, I did not get the opportunity to travel to Tenerife for covering or attending the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup last September. It was nevertheless an honour and a great chance for me to closely follow the world's women basketball top competition through the media and have a direct feedback from Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Katie Smith via the social networks during the tourney! I have known Katie for quite some years now. Back in 1988-89, I spent a full year in Southeastern Ohio and attended class at Logan High School where Katie Smith already performed very well in sports like basketball (of course), volleyball and track. Katie , always in quest for perfection, has always been a true athlete and a role model wherever she has played sports! As a member of the US women's senior national team, Smith helped the USA earn the gold medals in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games as well as in the 1998 and 2002 World

Just like every year, Bert was asked to select up to 10 All-America players (regardless of position). Here is therefore the 2017-18 berthoop.net Men's College Basketball All-America Team : Men's All-America 1  Miles Bridges , Michigan State - guard/forward, 2.01 m - 6'7", born in 1998, USA Men's All-America 2  Devonté Graham , Kansas - guard, 1.87 m - 6'2", born in 1995, USA Men's All-America 3  Deandre Ayton , Arizona - forward, 2.14 m - 7'0", born in 1998, Bahamas Men's All-America 4  Keita Bates-Diop , Ohio State - forward, 2.01 m - 6'7", born in 1996, USA Men's All-America 5  Marvin Bagley III ,

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes : 63-63, 70-70 and 78-80 after 2 OTs (played on 2018-02-23) Score at the half: 33-33.   There were great ball movements on both sides of the court in Bloomington, Indiana on Friday, Feb. 23rd, 2018. Ohio State of Coach Chris Holtmann had a rather comfortable advantage in the middle of the first half (12-19 and even 14-26 later on). Indiana of Coach Archie Miller came back in the race a few moments later and the scoreboard showed 33-33 at the break. Both OSU talented players Keita Bates-Diop (6'7", forward, age 22) and Kaleb Wesson (6'9", forward, age 18) looked fit and well in the first half. Justin Smith (6'7", forward, age 19) had spectacular plays and dunked the ball for Indiana . He was helped by Juwan Morgan (6'8", forward, age 20) and Robert Johnson (6'3", guard, age 22), hitting crucial shots for the Hoosiers . After a new strong start by the Buckeyes early in the second

Here are the summaries of two good NCAA basketball games watched on YouTube lately: Clemson Tigers vs. Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns : 89-60 (played on 2017-12-22) Score at the half: 43-28. Clemson had a quick start in this game which took place at the Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, South Carolina: the scoreboard showed 5-0 after a few minutes. Louisiana reacted well and evened the game afterwards. Ragin' Cajuns ' player Frank Bartley IV (6'3", guard, age 23) performed very well and Louisiana even took an advantage: 7-8. Donte Grantham (6'8", forward, age 22) was pretty efficient for the Tigers in the beginning of the game, marked by strong and well organized defenses on both sides. The Tigers played as a team and hit shots after having isolated players. Clemson recorded a 8-0 run, forcing Louisiana 's Head Coach Bob Marlin to take a much needed timeout (15-8). Both defenses remained impressive. Frank Bartley was definitely the Ra

EuroMillions League - Proximus Spirou Charleroi dominates Antwerp Giants on Jan. 16th, 2018

Bert and one of his sons were offered some tickets to attend the EuroMillions League game between Proximus Spirou Charleroi of Head Coach Brian Lynch and Antwerp Giants of Belgian Coach Roel Moors held at the Spiroudome on Tuesday, Jan. 16th, 2018. This Belgian basketball shock drove a rather small attendance of around 1,500 basketball fans in the large arena of Charleroi, Belgium which can seat 6,000 people. Giants ' Belgian talent Hans Vanwijn (6'9", power forward, born in 1995) was well present on the court and wore a mask to protect his broken nose. The game started very well for the hosts. Led by a pretty efficient Rasko Katic (6'10", center, born in 1980) in the paint, Spirou Charleroi quickly built a rather interesting advantage. The experienced Serbian center who won the silver medal at the FIBA World Cup 2014 looked as impressive as ever and scored the first 6 points for Spirou . The home squad played well and was pretty efficient offensively.
